About the event

Date/Time: January 19, 2024, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Type: Workshop/Seminar, Online Speaker: Dr. Christoph Heilig Event series: Between Man and Machine: Artificial Intelligence in Dialogue with the Humanities

The Faculty of Theology invites you to an innovative workshop that will examine the influence of large language models, such as those made famous by ChatGPT, on research and teaching. This workshop is aimed at teachers, researchers and students of theology and the humanities in general and aims to explore the far-reaching possibilities and challenges of these technologies.

TOPICS AND CONTENT OF THE WORKSHOP

We will examine what other relevant tools exist in ChatGPT besides the usual chat and how they can enrich academic work – or create new challenges for it. In particular, we will take a closer look at the following aspects:

  • The GPT-4 Playground: A hands-on demonstration showing how to work with GPT-4 in OpenAI's Playground and adjust parameters for specific research and teaching needs. Link: Playground - OpenAI API
  • The ChatGPT app: A discussion of the latest developments and features, including the "Whisper" transcription service integrated into the app. (Downloading the app before the workshop is recommended.)
  • Custom GPT Models: Discussion of ways this innovative technology can be used to ask questions of class manuscripts or for other specific applications. Link: ChatGPT
  • Claude from Anthropic: Introduction to this exciting alternative to ChatGPT, which is able to “read” entire books in no time.

This workshop aims to create a deep understanding of the current opportunities and limitations of AI in academia. Participants will not only gain practical knowledge, but also develop an awareness of the changing university landscape. We will discuss how these developments influence and shape our views on teaching, research and studying at universities.
